Creamy White Sauce from Crushed Oats/Flour Oat
Hello everyone!!
I am so happy to share this recipe of white sauce. We (me and my husband) love white sauce and use it in many of the main course dishes. However, traditionally it is made from all-purpose flour which held me back from eating it enough. This made me started thinking of the substitute for all-purpose flour, and I gave a try to crushed oats. Well, it turned out really good, and it was creamier than the regular one. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we did.
I made this batch of white sauce from oats to use in my main dish, "Vegetable Baked Dish." I made it for trial, so I don't have exact measurements, but I tried and mentioning as close as possible in the recipe below.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Rolled Oats
- 4 Tbsp Butter
- 1/2 cup 2% Milk
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1/8 Tsp Salt
- 1/8 Tsp Pepper
- 1/8 Garlic Powder
- 1/4 cup Cheese
Instructions:
- Crush the rolled oats.
- Heat a pan and add butter.
- Once the butter melts, add crushed oats. Mix the butter and crushed oats and sauté for 2 mins on low-medium flame.
- Add milk gradually to the pan and mix with the whisker constantly and make sure there is no lump formation.
- Add water and mix with the whisker constantly without forming any lumps.
- Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Add cheese and whisk until the cheese melts (optional).
Notes:
- Oats absorb a lot of water, so I have added water and milk to ensure good consistency.
- I added cheese to make it extra cheesy but can avoid it as it is itself very creamy.
- I personally like crushed oat and using them for the recipe. Still, you can always substitute them with the ready available oats flour.
